Applications

Confocal Microscopy

In confocal microscopy (LSCM), tightly focused laser beams scan biological specimens point by point, generating high-contrast optical sections with exceptional spatial resolution. Our stable, low-noise laser sources with direct modulation of all wavelengths ensure optimal excitation efficiency, no optical cross-talking and minimal photobleaching — key for long-term imaging in live-cell studies.

Maskless lithography & laser direct writing

In modern microlithographic systems compact violet and UV diode lasers have taken the place of bulky gas lasers or HeCd lasers. The superior performance of diode lasers enable improved up-times, lower cost of ownership and qualities of written features, which haven’t been imagined before this paradigm shift.

Optical scatterometry (OCD)

As semiconductor devices approach atomic-scale dimensions, controlling and verifying every nanometer of pattern geometry becomes a decisive factor for yield and performance. Traditional inspection tools like electron microscopy deliver high resolution, but they are too slow, too localized, and often destructive for in-line process control. Optical Scatterometry, also known as Optical Critical Dimension (OCD) metrology, provides the essential bridge between high-resolution analysis and high-throughput manufacturing. By analyzing how laser light is scattered, diffracted, or reflected from micro- and nanostructures, OCD enables non-contact, rapid, and precise measurement of line width, height, sidewall angle, and layer thickness — with sub-nanometer accuracy.

Ellipsometry

In modern semiconductor manufacturing, the precise control of thin films defines the success of every process step. Whether it’s the oxide thickness in a gate stack, the refractive index of a dielectric layer, or the uniformity of a multilayer coating — each nanometer matters. Ellipsometry has therefore become one of the most powerful and indispensable tools for non-destructive, high-precision metrology in the semiconductor industry. It provides detailed information about film thickness, optical constants, composition, and interface quality — all from the way polarized light interacts with a surface.

Color centers (NV/Si)

Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) and Silicon-Vacancy (SiV) centers are two prominent types of color centers (optically active point defects) in diamond, widely studied for their potential in quantum technologies such as sensing, metrology, and computing. They offer complementary properties for different applications.

Other microscopy types (TIRF, FLIM, ...)

Modern biophotonics goes far beyond conventional fluorescence or confocal microscopy. Researchers today explore living systems through light-matter interactions that reveal chemical composition, molecular dynamics, mechanics, and function. All without labels or stains.

Broadband spectroscopy

As demonstrated in several peer-reviewed publications, the TeraFlash pro enables spectroscopic measurements up to 6 THz.

Options

SmartDock

Fiber coupler for iBeam smart with coupling efficiency of typ. > 75%. Compatible with SM/PM fiber with FC/APC connectors and MM fibers with FC/APC or FC/PC connectors. Focusing lens is included.

Pulse Option

Allows for external asynchronous digital modulation with bandwidths up to 250 MHz. Cannot be combined with VIPG feature.

FiberOut

Fiber collimator including collimation lens which can be adjusted for variable focus. Typical beam sizes out of SM-fibers: 0.6 mm - 3.5 mm (1/e², diameter)

Optical Isolator

Prevents potential optical feedback from reaching the laser. Stabilizes output power and spectral behavior of the emission. Available at 405 nm, 633 nm, 660 nm, 685 nm, 785 nm and 850 nm. Please inquire for other wavelengths.

Wavelength Selection

Emission wavelength will be selected to better than ± 1 nm within the standard wavelength range of the laser system PLEASE NOTE: please inquire, to make sure actual center wavelength is available! Increased lead-time is probable.

CleanUp-Filter

Bandpass filter with typical bandwidth 6-10 nm. Available at 405 nm, 488 nm, 640 nm and 785 nm. Please inquire for other wavelengths.

VIPG (Versatile Internal Pulse Generator)

Electronic feature to increase coherence but spectrally broadening the signal. Cannot be combined with Pulse Option.

iWave add-on

Available for iBeam smart 375nm - 515nm. Add-On will reduce linewidth to typ. < 0.1nm. With add-on, the output power will be reduced to appr. 50% of original iBeam smart power specification.

Breakout PCB

Adapter PCB replacing the I/O connector for exposed pins in environments that have very limited space.

Power Supply

Input: 100-240 VAC; Output: 12 VDC at 5 A

Breadboard Adapter

Allows for direct mounting of iBeam smart to an optical breadboard or optical table. Beam height will be 40 mm with this adapter. Compatible with both metric and imperial hole patterns.

Switch Box

CDRH compliant with key switch, external connectors and manual switches for easy access to iBeam smart features.
