许多聚合物材料从某种程度上看上去对太赫兹是透明的,该性质成功地被用于非接触式分析和非破坏性测试。脉冲太赫兹辐射通过飞行时间 (TOF)技术获取物件厚度信息,即便在多层样品中仍然可用。每一层材料的前后界面反射的脉冲到达探测器时间差直接正比于相应材料层的厚度。
太赫兹辐射在塑料检测中的应用不仅限于厚度测量。通过利用太赫兹光束扫描样品,可以将一维的表面测量变为可精确定位亚表面裂缝,空隙和分层的三维图像。光谱技术可测定复合材料的吸收系数和折射率,从而揭示其组成成分以及内部结构。太赫兹技术在塑料工业质量和工艺监控中的潜力几乎是无限的。
