Quantum technology 2.0 utilizes the special features of the atomic world for new sensors and ways to process information. Photonics play a key role in that. Not only will the attainable levels of sensitivity and absolute precision be significantly increased, but also novel concepts such as quantum computers will become possible. Photons are, apart from being quantum objects, also the central carrier of information in imaging and communication. This session will exemplify the disruptive potential as well as the challenges associated with entangled photon pair sources in the context of newly arising technological applications: Imaging and detection in new spectral ranges as well as principally eavesdrop-proof communication are currently being adopted by both companies and research institutions alike.
CLEO®/Europe – EQEC 2019 conference is Europe’s largest conference on photonics and related research fields. The program features plenary lectures by Michal Lipson from Columbia University on Silicon Photonics, and by Anton Zeilinger from the Austrian Academy of Sciences on Entanglement. The overall program is considerably larger than in previous years, with 8 keynote and 6 tutorial speakers, and over 80 invited talks within the different topics. Furthermore, the conference will feature 12 short courses, more joint symposia fostering interdisciplinarity and interaction with other fields. In 2019, new lecture halls will be made available, improving conditions for oral sessions and allowing for more comprehensive poster session program.
