Multiphoton excitation microscopy
Unique 1100 – 1300 nm range with highest penetration depths
Second and third-harmonic microscopy
High peak powers at 775 and 1550 nm
Multiphoton excitation microscopy is a laser scanning imaging technique closely related to confocal microscopy. Two or more photons excite a fluorophore only at the focus a femtosecond laser beam. The fluorophore subsequently emits a single photon in the visible wavelength range which is easily detected. The highest penetration depths in biological tissue, in the 1100 – 1300 nm wavelength range, are only covered by ultrafast fiber lasers.
