Modern flow cytometry techniques permit extremely fast identification and separation of cells. Detection limits are very low, even sub-micron-sized particles with few attached dyes can be recognized. When recording scatter data and fluorescence signals simultaneously, biologists receive comprehensive information about their examined specimen. Shape, size and type of cell are analyzed automatically. |

What should the optimum laser for flow cytometry look like? Most of all, the output power needs to be as stable as possible, resulting in a good coefficient of variance. Second, pointing stability matters as the laser beam must target the center of the cell flow. Third, laser power is important to achieve a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio.
TOPTICA’s industrial diode lasers iBeam and iPulse fulfill all of these specifications, and more: sophisticated electronics and thermal control protects the laser diode from all environmental impacts, no matter whether you operate in a lab or under harsh conditions in the field. By this measure, the diode lifetime is increased significantly. In case of refurbishment, only the diode itself has to be exchanged. All other components feature a very long life of several years.
