In the past, microscopists frequently used gas lasers due to the absence of suitable alternative solutions, suffering from well-known drawbacks such as high power consumption, huge heat dissipation, noise and vibration as well as low lifetime. Nowadays diode lasers are a welcome successor, offering high beam quality, high power stability and a superb lifetime at a very economic price. |

TOPTICA’s industrial diode lasers provide a diffraction-limited beam with an excellent wavefront so you achieve an excellent resolution of your confocal image. While older microscopes used low-power lasers and subsequently low scanning speed, microscopes equipped with TOPTICA lasers show a high frames-per-second rate, enabling real-time movies of the microcosm. Offering high power stability additionally, your cellular image does not show fluctuations over time.
As laser diodes are available at various distinct wavelengths (from 375 nm to 800 nm), researchers can select their preferred wavelength and do not need to compromise anymore. Even exotic dyes (e.g. NIR dyes) can be excited by diode lasers while gas lasers show a gap in this range.
With respect to required space, our industrial diode lasers outperform gas lasers by far. Laser head and power supply are combined in one housing, resulting in a footprint of only 156 x 56 x 66 mm3. Even if there’s no space available at all, you can take advantage of our systems due to the optional fiber-coupling. Simply place the laser externally and only connect the fiber to your microscope. Upgrading your system is more convenient than ever before.
